The Good…
I think church went pretty good today. The worship set was ok but I felt like there were no transitions between the songs save for the one time Ed talked about the festival they played at yesterday. Other than that, one song would end, there would be silence while Ed got a drink or something and then the next song would start. The message was alright. After church, Ed and I went over to Mom and Dad’s for lunch. The GO group was having a pot luck lunch at Mom and Dad’s today and Ed and I crashed.
Alistair got back a little bit later and he and I went downstairs to watch the football games. He wanted to watch the Ravens and I, of course, wanted to watch the Skins. So as we shared watching the games and flipping between channels and the like, we had some really good conversations about stuff going on at church. I think being able to have this open and honest conversation with Alistair is really good because he also knows what’s going on with church during the week that most of us don’t get to see or even hear about. We also had some discussion about what we think some of the problems are and how we can figure out what to do about them. I think we both can see a lot of the issues but Alistair thinks that Bruce is also aware of these issues and that, rather than me talking to Bruce about it also, I/we should let Bruce process what he has been presented with and heard from others and then figure out a solution. It may take longer than we would like, but that is how Bruce works through problems. He isn’t the type of person that sees a crisis and swoops in to solve it. For Bruce, it is a very strategic thing and he has to think through the issue, the possibilities, and then find a broad solution to the issues. From previous experience, I see that this is true of Bruce and think that Alistair is exactly right about this situation. I think this is all part of the growing pains that our church is going through right now and that eventually, we will get to a place where things are working well.
The Bad…
The Redskins lost today…again! We are awful. We started out playing very well in the first half and we were playing in Green Bay…not at home. And then came the second half…UGH!!!! Turnover after turnover…when we actually intercepted or recovered a fumble from the Packers…our stupid offense couldn’t do anything with it. Then we get the ball back with less than two minutes left and we can’t do anything with it. It was awful. We couldn’t complete a pass and Jason got sacked twice in the last series that we had control of the ball. Of course, because we don’t do anything with it we add to the yardage we have to get by having some stupid penalty called against us. How ridiculous?!?! Anyway, the Redskins are now 3 and 2…we need to win the next few weeks…to keep a positive record…Here’s hoping!
